3 Steps to improve your Sales Presentation

3 Steps to improve your Sales Presentation

Improve Your Next Sales Presentation in Three Easy Steps

Be Interactive. While it’s important to be in control of the room during a sales presentation, make sure that you are speaking with your prospects – not at them. Use your sales presentation to ask questions and gather feedback. This style of dynamic presentation ensures that you won’t miss important buying signals.

HubSpot suggests you ditch the memorization when it comes to delivering a great sales presentation. Of course, you’ll want to be familiar with your presentation before you deliver it, but memorizing it word-for-word can add extra stress on you, potentially taking away from the value of your presentation.”

According to Inc.com, Some people wrongly believe that sales presentations should be like keynote speeches--entertaining but without much meat. Other people believe that sales presentations should be like lectures--informative and instructive. Both groups are wrong. The purpose of a sales presentation is topersuade a large group of people to make a collective decision.”

One of the easiest ways to create an interactive & persuasive presentation is to ask questions, which brings us to my second tip – personalization.

Be Personal. If you walk into a sales presentation ready to run through the same slide deck you can deliver in your sleep, you are missing the point. Address the unique needsof your prospect and explain how your product can solve those specific challenges. Frankly, few prospects care about the parts of your presentations that don’t speak directly to them.

Yasin Abbak of Paired Media suggests personalizing your presentation by taking advantage of the intimate setting to check-in with your audience. Too often, people approach sales presentations like a performance: there’s a script with a beginning, middle and end, and engagement is not part of the equation. Acknowledge that opportunity to connect with your audience on a personal level, and use the intimate setting to check in periodically.”

Our prospects have easy access to information. As a result, generic sales presentations just don’t cut it anymore. Prospects are no longer looking for you to educate them. They have educated themselves and, likely, already have questions in mind. Entrepreneur Magazine, suggests that“If you use a linear sales process that goes over information they already know, you will frustrate your customer and slow things down.”

Be interactive during your sales presentation; create a custom presentation for each prospect and provide further personalization by asking questions to learn more abouttheir needs.

The folks at Salesforce agree, “Prospects don’t care about every benefit your product has to offer. They only care about the aspects of your product that address their specific challenges. Everything else is irrelevant. Once you’ve addressed all of your prospect's challenges, stop the presentation.”

Knowing when to wrap up a sales presentation is a skill that often goes unacknowledged, which brings us to my final tip – keep it short.

Be Brief.Face it, people have miniscule attention spans. If you are rambling on, you are going to lose the attention of your audience. Worse, you can lose the deal. Nobody wants to buy from a person that can’t read a room. Get to the point, get feedback and get to the next step of the sales process.

Salesforce goes on to say, Keep your presentation as short as possible, focusing on the most critical aspects of your offering. A good rule of thumb: Present what you absolutely must present and then shut up.”

On that note, I leave you with three easy-to-action steps to make your next sales presentation the best one yet.

Disrupting the Traditional Event Space

Disrupting the Traditional Event Space

Carpathia Summits is here to rescue you from boring, traditional networking events.

Like you, we were sick of wandering aimlessly through expo halls hoping to find a pertinent vendor or eagerly searching hundreds of faces to identify that one key connection in the crowd.

There are a handful of traps that the majority of events fall prey to:

·      Presentations are full of dry, pre-planned content.

Outside of a few exceptional, timely speakers you are left with a list of speakers presenting topics that they believe themselves to be “experts” on and that, often, have little relevance for the audience members. This reliance on pre-determined content stifles the creative dialogue that happens so naturally when you bring together a group of like-minded people.

·      Setting aside limiting time for networking.

Traditional events just hope that somehow attendees are able to create meaningful connections while grabbing a cup of coffee between sessions or while shoveling eggs & bacon in their mouth at a continental breakfast. If exciting networking opportunities are not being cultivated and fostered by the event organizers, arguably, the most important reason to attend an event is an after-thought rather than a core factor. Click HERE to check out the Adventure Networking Excursions, like swimming with stingrays or golfing Pebble Beach, offered at our Summits.

·      Forced progression of events.

Creating structure that is too rigid encourages attendees to wine & dine key prospects outside of the event just to get a bit of one-on-one time or to sneak away if they hope to have a semi-private conversation. Traditional events do not create an environment where time is set aside to build genuine connections. Hosted activities are solely focused on giving vendors more time to pitch instead of providing all attendees a chance to connect in a more authentic way, fostering a real bond that can lead to a long-term partnership. If you believe in the value of real relationships request more information now.

Do these event woes sound familiar?

We know that stronger relationships are created when we get face time with others. According to HubSpot, “85% of people say they build stronger, more meaningful relationships during in-person meetings.” Events are essential to your business. We want them to be fun again. Carpathia is here to revolutionize the way you network with relationship-based acceleration.

We are determined to disrupt the traditional event model by balancing the need for structure with an openness which allows each attendee to drive the dialogue. Pre-scheduled One-on-One Discovery Meetings will be complemented with bonding activities like a Murder/Mystery Dinner, off-site Adventure Networking Excursion, and moderated Round Table conversations.

View a sample schedule and list of Summits on the Carpathia website.

According to an Eventbrite study, published by Entrepreneur Magazine, “79% [of respondents] feel that going to live events with others helps deepen their relationships & 69% believe attending events makes them feel more connected to people.”

Carpathia Summits is here to answer the call for better events that create more meaningful connections at Bucket-List destinations. Events can save you time, provide innovative ways to overcome challenges, and increase your revenue all while you create lasting memories!

Are you picturing yourself in an afternoon meeting on the white sand beaches of Grand Cayman or making your best guess at a blind wine tasting in Napa? See what Bucket-List Networking events are being hosted in your industry at carpathiasummits.com.

Inspire Creativity at work by leaving the office.

Inspire Creativity at work by leaving the office.

Inspire Creativity at Work by Leaving the Office

There are endless articles touting the values of work/life balance. As dreamy as it would be to take 3 months off each year for self-care, that is not the reality most of us live in.

Bucket-List Networking is a much-needed compromise. We’re here to show you a funway to accelerate essentialbusiness relationships, saving you time & money.

Research done on the importance of changing your environment, proves that your brain becomes active in ways that encourages creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.

How many of you already have a peaceful outdoor setting as your screensaver? Maybe you spend a few moments each day looking at a picture andwishing you were there...? Stop lusting after your screensaver and make that view a reality.

According to Inc.com, Just as the sound of water can block out overstimulating noises, the sight of a sparkling ocean or lake horizon is less "busy" than what you'd see in most rooms. The visual data your eyes take in send the message to the brain not to shut down, but merely towork in a different, less hyped way. For some individuals, the stark lines between the shore, water and sky might contribute to a feeling of being balanced, grounded and in control, offering focal points that deliver aclearer message to the brainabout where they physically are in space.

According to Entreprenuer.com, unfocused employees are one of the most significant drains on company resources. Luckily,Carpathia has the answer – Bucket-List Networkingin paradise locations.

Entrepreneur.com asks, Are you spending most of your [time in the office] daydreaming, looking-up trips to the Caribbean, or playing the latest game fad on your smartphone? Those are all red flags that you aren’t focused on your work and need to get away from the workplace for a bit.”

Carpathia offers you an opportunity to get away from your workplace without using those cherished vacation days. We all need to refresh and recharge to be our most productive selves.

According to The Atlantic, the answer to a more creative brain can be as simple as travel. Soaking up new cultures, foods, and sights allows your brain to process ideas in a new way.

Research from Scientific America proves that a rested brain is more creative.

Scientific America states that the best type of restful activity is often vigorous and mentally engaging. These types of activities are restorative because they offer a break from your normal working life.

The experience of having the mind slightly relaxed allows it to explore different combinations of ideas, to test out different solutions. And then once it has arrived at one that looks promising, that is what pops into your head as an Aha! Moment.”

Are you ready to experience your Aha! Moment while learning from your peers and establishing beneficial partnerships?

Event Success Checklist

Event Success Checklist

Event Success Checklist

Before you go to your next conference, tradeshow or other business development event make sure you can answer these 7 essential questions for guaranteed success:

1.     Do you have a clear vision for what you want to accomplish?

Are you debuting a new product? Are you recruiting new customers? Whatever you goal, make sure you have it clearly defined before attending the event. Better yet, have it clearly defined before you sign up and commit to attend!

2.     What metrics will you use, post-event, to determine success?

Now really dissect those metrics so that you know exactly what they measure. Is your metric for success based on the number of business cards you collect? Why? How many business cards need to be collected for the event to be considered a success? Why? You get the picture - dig a bit deeper. Stop paying to attend events because it’s what you’ve always done. Instead find events that will allow you to walk away with genuine connections rather than a stack of business cards.

3.              What image or brand identity do you want to convey?

For many potential customers, this will be their first in-person impression of your business. Do you have employees that greet a prospect with a mouth full of food or a wrinkled, untucked shirt? Nobody wants to buy from a person that looks unprofessional. Whatever your brand identity is, make sure the person working this event understands the importance of creating a trustworthy first impression.

4.              Are you sure your staff, experienced or not, have been trained properly?

Obviously, you’re investing in these business development events to generate revenue, but are your salespeople on the same page? Often the team members who are working events sit and wait for business conversations to come to them or they overdo it with the sales pitch when a somebody with a heartbeat wanders into their booth.  Train your team to have a convincing pitch ready but make sure they are trained to ask genuine questions, qualify their prospects, and be honest about what capabilities your company can deliver on after the event. The goal is for them to be engaging and ultimately create meaningful interactions at events.

5.              Do you know what the true cost & ROI potential of the event is?

Do you have a total cost of the event fees, travel expenses, costs of entertaining clients, etc. Create an honest total cost for your company’s attendance. If possible, put these figures together when deciding which events to allocate funds to. A $5000 trade show booth may sound like a good deal until you add up all of the hidden fees, travel costs, employee expenses, etc. That 5K booth suddenly becomes a 10K+ investment. Now you know what the real cost is and what it will take to recoup your investment, so the next question is:

6.              How are going to track your leads and measure ROI post-event?

This will be different for every business, but it is much easier to track ROI at more intimate, senior-level events. A trend many industries are experiencing is a move away from trade shows towards event formats with pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings. This takes the risk & guess work out of the event and allows you to build a deeper connection than the standard conference business card exchange! These programs usually have an all-in cost. While they seem pricier at first blush, they are often a similar cost to trade shows once you total all of the costs. Instead of tracking hundreds of business cards, you can focus on a handful of high-quality meetings with a higher probability of closing.

7.              What is your strategy for follow-ups?

An important follow-up strategy is just as essential as selecting the right event and making the right connections while there. If you are attending a large event and collecting dozens of business cards, make sure you identify what follow-up each person is expecting from you before they leave your booth. If you have selected a more elite, intimate event like a Summit, set your follow-ups while you are on-site. The most important way to guarantee success post-event is to have each prospect open their calendar and accept a follow-up call, meeting, or site visit while you are still face-to-face. Stop wasting time chasing clients who aren’t qualified or send qualified prospects the wrong information- set a specific follow-up while in-person at the event.

If you can layout a clear and concise plan to answer these questions before you show up to your next business development event, you will be sure to walk away with an honest measure of your success and more clients!

As we head into the end of the year, many companies will be evaluating their business development budgets and strategies for the coming year. Before you allocate monies to the same old show, make sure to ask and answer these questions to make your investment go further.

Knowledge is Power When Information is Everywhere

Knowledge is Power When Information is Everywhere

Knowledge is Power When Information is Everywhere

I was back at the Merchandise Mart earlier this month attending Design Chicago and sitting in on CEU Seminars. One of the few that resonated with me was a chat with residential-design industry leader, Chad Stark, SVP of STARK Carpet.

During his presentation, “Knowledge is Power When Information is Everywhere: Tools and Strategies with Today’s Tech-Savvy Luxurians,” Stark provided some insights I believe to be relevant to any professional, regardless of industry.

Stark began with the vexed question, “Are informed consumers good or bad?”

Informed consumers are a positive when it comes to understanding the value of a product or having a willingness to pay for superior customer service. However, the informed customer is not looked upon so fondly when it comes to delayed decision-making as a result of shopping around or suggesting cheaper, inferior options. The verdict was that it’s ultimately better to have a well-informed customer. It was agreed that the trend for customers to educate themselves online before reaching out to a salesperson is going to continue.

One of my favorite takeaways from Stark’s presentation: being an expert and authority in any industry, whether as a designer, sales professional, or other executive is just as much about guiding customers away from bad decisions as it is guiding them towards good ones.

Stark ended by outlining six strategies to empower designers to provide the most relevant and credible information to potential clients. Of those strategies, two apply to all businesses looking to operate in an economy that relies increasingly on a flood of digital information. Stark encouraged a dedication to growing one’s social credibility by 1. Establishing oneself as an authority by sharing one’s expertise for free (e.g. designers giving free consultations) and 2. to position oneself to receive earned media, especially organic product reviews from online Influencers.

Knowledge is power when there is unlimited access to information. To ensure your customers have the best information and regard you as the expert, share your expertise and align yourself with social influencers who will recommend your product. Brand awareness is important, but works best when your customers feel that it’s genuine.
